Description
Haumaniastrum coriaceum (also called African Leather Orchid, among many other common names) is a terrestrial orchid species that is native to tropical Africa. It is found in Angola, Cameroon, Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. It grows in grasslands, savannas, and woodlands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Haumaniastrum coriaceum has white flowers with yellow anthers and a long, curved spur. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings have a single, long, narrow leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Haumaniastrum coriaceum is a terrestrial orchid native to Central and South America. It prefers a well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss. It should be kept in bright, indirect light and kept moist but not soggy. Propagation is done through division of the rhizome.
