Description

Tectaria triloba (also called Three-lobed Fern, among many other common names) is a species of fern in the family Tectariaceae. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, from Mexico to Argentina. It is found in humid forests, often in the understory, and on rocks and tree trunks.

Uses & Benefits

Tectaria triloba is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a medicinal herb.

Flower, Seeds and Seedlings

Tectaria triloba has small, white flowers that are clustered together in a terminal umbel. The seeds are small, black and glossy. The seedlings have a single pair of cotyledons and a short hypocotyl.

Cultivation and Propagation

Tectaria triloba is a tropical fern native to Southeast Asia. It is easy to propagate from spores. Spores should be collected from the underside of the fronds and sown in a moist, sterile medium such as vermiculite or peat moss. Keep the medium moist and in a warm, humid environment. The spores should germinate in 4-6 weeks.

Where to Find Tectaria triloba

Tectaria triloba can be found in tropical rainforests in Central and South America.
