Description
Potamogeton rutilus (also called Red-stemmed Pondweed, among many other common names) is an aquatic plant found in shallow water in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving streams. It has a reddish stem and bright green leaves that are usually oval in shape. Native to Europe and Asia, it grows in a variety of habitats including shallow water, mud, and sand.
Cultivation and Propagation
Potamogeton rutilus is a hardy aquatic plant that can be propagated by division or by seed. It prefers full sun to partial shade and can tolerate a wide range of water depths. It can be grown in water up to 1.5m (5ft) deep. It is best planted in a container or in a pond with a substrate of gravel or sand. It can also be grown in a bog garden. It is best propagated by division in early spring or by seed in late spring.
