Description
Monnina boliviensis (also called Bolivian Monnina, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree native to South America. It grows up to 10 m tall and has leaves that are oblong-ovate, with a pointed tip, and are up to 8 cm long. It is found in dry forests, scrublands, and rocky areas in Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Uses & Benefits
Monnina boliviensis is used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating fever, malaria, and dysentery. It is also used as an ornamental plant in gardens.
Cultivation and Propagation
Monnina boliviensis is propagated by division or by seed. Division should be done in the spring, when the plant is actively growing. Seeds should be sown in the spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer.
