Description
Epipactis africana (also called African Helleborine, among many other common names) is a terrestrial orchid species native to Africa. It has an erect stem, up to 40 cm tall, with alternate, linear-lanceolate leaves, up to 10 cm long and 1 cm wide. It blooms in the spring and summer, with yellow flowers, up to 1 cm wide, and grows in grasslands and open woodlands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Epipactis africana has white flowers with yellowish-green sepals and petals. The flowers are about 1 cm in diameter, with a yellowish-green lip. The seed is a small, round, black seed. The seedlings are small and have a single, long, thin leaf.
