Description
Monotagma laxum (also called Lax Pilea, among many other common names) is an evergreen perennial plant native to Central America. It is a low-growing, creeping plant with small, round, scalloped leaves that are usually green, but can also be variegated. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and partial shade.
Uses & Benefits
Monotagma laxum is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a houseplant. It is also used as a groundcover in shady areas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Monotagma laxum has small white flowers with four petals. The seeds are small, round, and black. The seedlings have small, round leaves and a delicate stem.
Cultivation and Propagation
Monotagma laxum is a fast-growing, low-maintenance plant that can be propagated easily from stem cuttings. To propagate, take a stem cutting from an existing plant and place it in a pot filled with moist soil. Keep the soil moist and in a warm, bright location and the cutting should take root within a few weeks.
