Description
Carex exilis (also called Slender Sedge, among many other common names) is a perennial sedge, native to North America. It has a clump-forming habit, with narrow, arching, light green leaves and small, brownish-green flowers. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. It is often found in meadows, prairies, and open woodlands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Carex exilis has small, yellow-brown flowers that are borne in dense spikes. The seeds are small, dark brown and shiny. The seedlings are short, with narrow leaves.
Where to Find Carex exilis
Carex exilis can be found in wet woods, bogs, and wet meadows in the eastern United States and Canada.
