Description
Tongoloa rubronervis (also called red-veined tongoloa, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Apiaceae family. It is native to the Yunnan region and can be found in dry grasslands, rocky slopes and other open habitats. It has a basal rosette of pinnate leaves and a stem with white flowers.
Uses & Benefits
Tongoloa rubronervis is used as an ornamental plant and for its essential oil. The essential oil is used in perfumes and cosmetics.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Tongoloa rubronervis is a small, white to pinkish-white, star-shaped flower with five petals. The seed is small, black and round. The seedlings are small and have a thin stem with small, light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Tongoloa rubronervis is a hardy perennial that is easy to propagate from seed. Sow the seeds in the spring in a sunny location. The seeds should be planted in well-drained soil and kept moist. Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them out to allow for adequate spacing between plants. The plants will reach a mature height of up to 2 feet and should be spaced at least 12 inches apart. Once established, the plants will require little maintenance and can be left to grow without additional care.
